Diamonds Have Colors

I was stunned when I found out that there are actually different colors for the diamond mineral and I wouldn’t be able to know if it wasn’t for my friend, who just recently got proposed to. She got a pinkish colored diamond ring from her fiancé. I checked out some other colored diamonds and I found out that colors steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black are some possible colors of diamonds and they get the color when a diamond has some impurities to it. I guess it would either increase or decrease the value of the stone, well at least depending on how many impurities a certain diamond has. Although, I also found out that the blue diamonds are natural semiconductors, while mostly of other diamond colors are excellent electrical insulators. The conductivity and blue color originate from the boron impurity. Boron substitutes for carbon atoms in the diamond lattice, donating a hole into the valence band. Anyway, I guess this would make it easier for me when I finally choose diamond rings for my girlfriend because all I would need to do is look for green colored diamond rings, since green is her favorite color.
